Message from Lord Vestey:

We are very fortunate in Gloucestershire to have such a beautiful county in which to play cricket with so many splendid grounds in picturesque locations. To properly play and enjoy the game, it needs competent trained umpires and scorers. Recreational cricket, in general, has insufficient umpires and scorers to serve its needs and the situation in our county is no exception.

The Gloucestershire Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers has a good experienced team of Instructors available to train new recruits and provide continuing post-qualification guidance to its members. If you enjoy cricket and would like to support the recreational game in Gloucestershire by being an umpire or a scorer, please make contact with the Association who would welcome you on board. Remember that as an umpire, you always have the best view of the match.
Brief History of the Association

Following two steering committee meetings in November 1986 and January 1987, the inaugural meeting to found the then Gloucestershire Association of Cricket Umpires was held on the 25th March 1987 with 26 people in attendance. In 1992, the Association received consent from the Gloucestershire County Council to use part of the county crest for its emblem. At its 6th Annual General Meeting, in March 1993, Scorers was added to the Association’s title in recognition of both the importance of their role in the game and the number of scorer members who had, by then, joined the Association.

Gradually, over the years, the Association has developed in strength to the extent that there has been a five-fold increase in its membership since inception. However, the demands for its services in providing trained, qualified officials for the higher levels of adult and youth recreational cricket in Gloucestershire has grown even faster.
